| SERVICES NAH PLANS TO PROVIDE |
| |
Carefully screened volunteers will provide many of Newton at Home's services at no additional cost to our members. If a volunteer is not available, or a licensed professional is required, or the job is simply “too big,” NAH will be able to provide members access to carefully hand-picked vendors and service providers. We expect many of these providers to offer discounts to NAH members. In the coming months, NAH will determine which services are to be included as part of the NAH membership fee and which will require direct payment to the vendors and service providers. We are currently evaluating the following types of services:
- Home Services: Simple carpentry and painting, assistance with house cleaning, home maintenance and repair, taking out the trash, sweeping or shoveling sidewalks, changing light bulbs, hanging curtains, testing smoke detectors, bringing in mail while the NAH member is away, and delivering meals.
- Gardening Advice and Help: Watering and caring for plants during brief absences; gardening advice and assistance.
- Transportation: Individual and group rides to grocery stores, doctors' offices, airports, friends’ homes, cultural events, and other local destinations.
- Technology Assistance: In-home computer training; problem solving regarding computers, DVDs, and other electronic devices.
- Convenience Services: Picking up prescriptions, groceries or dry cleaning; helping with bill paying; preparing and mailing packages; waiting for a repair person; taking in a computer for repair; bringing car in for repairs; pet feeding and dog walking; shopping for presents.
- Social and Cultural Activities: Regular trips and activities, travel adventures for individuals and groups, dining groups, book clubs, and walking groups. Where available, NAH will arrange for group discounts for tickets to theatre, movies, concerts, and sporting events.
- Professional Services: Recommendations for local specialists such as licensed carpenters, plumbers, and electricians; legal, investment, financial planning, and tax professionals; architects and contractors who specialize in home adaptation; and travel agents.
- Health Services: Assistance with access to local hospitals and the physicians associated with each institution; referrals to social workers, nurses, audiologists, home care agencies, and companion care; help with medical benefits explanations, prescription information, dietician consulting; exercise classes; and personal training.
