Transportation - Senior Center/Yellow Voucher

The staff and volunteers of Newton at Home work very hard to fill all transportation requests and we are successful most of the time. We never want you to go without the ride you need and want, so as a service to you we are identifying additional transportation options.  The option that we are most excited about is the Yellow Voucher Transportation Program through the City of Newton's Senior Center.

The Newton Senior Center has a transportation service called the Yellow Voucher Transportation Program. The cost of these rides is $4.00 each way.  Here is a link to the page that has all the details on the program (Yellow Voucher Transportation Program).  In order to get the vouchers you can go to the Newton Senior Center in person or mail a check to the Newton Senior Center, 345 Walnut Street, Newtonville, 02460. Include your full name, address, and the number of vouchers you are purchasing. When the check is received, the vouchers will be mailed. (So, for instance, if you would like to buy five vouchers send a check for $20.00.)

Here is some additional useful information about the Yellow Voucher Transportation Program:
  • Our contact at the Senior Center is Alice Bailey (617-796-1664). She is available to answer all questions. (Please discuss reduced fare options with Alice, if appropriate.)
  • Reservations are required and should be made 1-3 business days in advance. Please call 617-796-1288 to make reservations.
  • You may also make a regular ride schedule (for instance, you may make a reservation for the same day, time and/or destination, either daily or weekly). You will need one voucher for the ride there and one voucher for the ride home.
  • All transportation is provided through a contract that the Newton Department of Senior Services has with Veteran’s Taxi. This is a great deal!
As always, we continue to partner with city departments and other non-profit organizations in Newton to support our mission of working with our members who wish to remain living independently and safely at home. We are continuing to research other transportation options and will look forward to sharing them with you. Please do not hesitate to contact us with questions (617-795-2560).
